When it comes to dining, little things add up to make a restaurant great. That's why The Shark on the Harbor in West Ocean City is a good place to eat. They do a lot of little things right. They have handmade chips. Their dishes have little extras on them, like the seared tuna small plate with pineapple foam and a pineapple ring to help cool the spicy wasabi. They use local ingredients, and they serve local beer. They have really fresh fish, and they get all the spices right. The dining room has windows on all sides, giving you an awesome view of the commercial fishing harbor. The whole restaurant has a laid back but sophisticated vibe. And all these things add up, making a meal there well worth the trip in West Ocean City.
The best little thing is the prices of their lunch specials. Typically a meal at the Shark can get pricey quick, but everyday they have different lunch specials available for $5.99 between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. The specialty here is seafood, and the lunch specials do not disappoint for the price you pay. The tuna steak sandwich I got was a really great deal. The tuna was thick, big, really juicy and well seasoned. It came with wasabi mayonnaise on the bun and handmade chips. And it only cost $5.99.
The Shark is located right on the harbor (hence the name), so the restaurant is all about fresh seafood. The menu rotates based on what is available locally on that particular day. Recent menu items include lobster pasta, swordfish tacos and duck two ways.
Their dinner prices run pretty high, about $20 or more per person, though as they serve mainly seafood this really can't be helped. Lunches are much cheaper. Even if you don't get a special, many of the lunch options are still less than $15. Lunch could also be a good idea because the place gets crowded at nights. For dinner, a reservation is recommended to make sure you get a table.
If you just want a little bit to eat they also offer small plates, which run about $10 each. Recently, they have choices like duck-stuffed squash, mako bites, Hawaiian pork "wings", shrimp and lobster dip and crispy oysters on the menu.
They also have a pretty wide selection of local beers, including Burley Oak, Evolution Brewing Company and Dogfish Head. The bar is big, taking up the middle of the restaurant. So, if you're looking for a classy place to enjoy your happy hour, head down to the harbor, grab a beer, a small plate (the mako bites are tasty), some friends, relax and enjoy the view.
