Baltimore native Bucky Lasek took first place in the Dew Tour's skateboard vert competition, handily winning Saturday afternoon in Ocean City as the extreme sports event took center stage on Maryland's shore.

Lasek, who also took first in the skate bowl semi-final on Friday, with last year’s winner Pedro Barros right behind him, said yesterday that he planned to focus on the vert before getting to work on the skate bowl finals, which take place Sunday.

“I gotta concentrate on vert, where Pedro can come over here and concentrate on bowl all day [Saturday],” Lasek said after the bowl semi-final Friday. “It’s hard to compete in both. When one practice is over the other one’s beginning.”

Also Saturday afternoon, Jamie Bestwick won his ninth consecutive Dew Cup for BMX vert, blowing the competition away on his last run.

Saturday’s schedule was the busiest by far, playing host to Friday night’s postponed BMX vert final, as well as the skateboard vert final and skateboard legends bowl final, set for 7 p.m., featuring Steve Alba, Steve Caballero and other skateboard pioneers.

BMX and skateboard street sessions, new to the Dew Tour this year, will take place at 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Rapper Talib Kweli will also be performing Saturday night, along with DJ Stimulus starting at 9 p.m. In Berlin, a few miles away from the ocean, the Dew Tour will host an art show, Recognize: Art, featuring work from Steve Caballero, Neil Blender and Christian Hosoi.

So far everything has gone smoothly down by Dorchester Street. The Surf Shop Showdown went off Thursday night without a hitch. Sam Deeley, surfing for K-Coast Surf Shop, won the contest with an air reverse.
