We're going downy ocean, hon

As Marylanders ease into the heat of the summer, we're looking for a little relief. There's no better place to find it than in Ocean City.

For memories, nothing compares with that ride across the Bay Bridge and onward along Route 50, windows down and XM radio blaring, knowing the pleasures of the boardwalk await.

I'm not a native Marylander, but I'm a beach girl all the way. Growing up in South Florida, just a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean's deep blues, ensured I would take the shore for granted. But after a move north, it was the beach I missed the most.

I won't tell you it's the same because some of you have probably been to Florida and you know it's not. It's different. Better in many ways. We never had a boardwalk. And you might have to cut through somebody's mansion - Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago, for example - to get to that perfect beach spot.

But Ocean City is accessible to everyone with something that appeals to almost everyone. The resort was recently named to TripAdvisor's 2011 list of the best family amusements and boardwalks.

On this blog, we'll try to keep you up to date on all the happenings down on the shore, including events, deals, news and more. Whatever we find sifting through the sand.

Welcome to the OC Blog. We're glad you're here but we know you wish you were there.
