Looking for a place to get amped for Dew Tour? Check out Ocean Bowl Skate Park, the oldest municipal skate park in the county.
First opened in 1976 as a result of a city wide ban of skateboarding, Ocean Bowl has been a staple of the city since its opening. With a small bowl, back bowl, pool, mini ramp and vert ramp the park has it all for skaters looking to ride all different types of transition features. There is also plenty of corners, hips, banked walls and the always intense "Gnar Wall", which has seven feet of transition to a 1 ½-foot vertical wall, Ocean Bowl has features challenging to skaters of any skill set.
In the summer, Ocean Bowl offers plenty of ways for skaters to get involved further than simply stopping by for the day. The park offers three contests with a date yet to be determined for their August competition. They also offer skate camps and skate lessons, which you can sign up for at the park on online on oceancitymd.gov.
I've skated the park many times and it's always fun. With great layout that allows for skaters to link lines and hit many different features, Ocean Bowl is a great place to improve your skills. It also has a stellar location in the city on 3rd Street and St. Louis Ave. so you are right on the bay and a short walk away from the boardwalk.
