O.C. Lacrosse Classic gets underway tomorrow

As most Marylanders know, lacrosse is deeply ingrained in this state's culture, however, so are summers at the beach and the combination of the two is always a great match.

Back for another epic year, the Ocean City Lacrosse Classic rolls into town on Aug.16 to showcase the skills of players young and old in one of the most eclectic and action packed tournaments of its kind.

More than 100 teams in five different age divisions - including both men's and women's elite divisions as well as men's masters (35+), grandmasters (45+) and King Neptune (50+) - show up for a weekend of lacrosse by day and letting loose by night.

Thousands of players compete in the four-day tournament that takes place mostly in Northside Park, but also in various other locations in and around O.C. Players come from a variety of talent levels and experience to form teams, many of which have a sponsor who pays entry fees and buys uniforms.

One of the highlights of the OC Classic is the wild uniforms that teams create either for their summer-long leagues or specifically for the event. Many participants also will be rocking their "flow," a term coined for a player's long hair that hangs out the back of their helmet.

The OC Classic has been a longtime staple, not only for Ocean City, but also for the lacrosse community as a whole. The event is consistently popular because the town has so much to offer visiting players and fans for a great weekend in addition to playing a great game.

So if you like the game of lacrosse or just want to check out the wild team gear, swing by any of the locations and enjoy one of the most unique events to hit the beach each summer.
