Walking down the boardwalk, the actions sports beachfront takeover was clear. Fans carried skateboard decks in hopes of getting an athlete's signature, small children skated in over-sized gear and skate shoes appeared to be more popular than sandals.
The competition continued Friday with action in the Skate Vert semifinals and the BMX Vert Finals, both taking place later in the day at Dorchester Street and the beach. Leading up to this evenings competitions were several practices, where fans could catch action on the ramps all day.
Organizers also appear to have followed through on promises of a more fan-friendly Dew Tour, offering dozens of activities for fans to do between competitions like allowing kids to rent bikes and try out a BMX course.
The scene at the event is busy, but crowds did not appear to have reached a peak on Friday, but there were some lines to get a seat in the bleachers. Organizers expect the crush to be on this weekend, so early visitors might want to get in on the Dew Tour Experience before the weekend rush. Inside, you can visit sponsor booths that look like waves, watch acrobatic tricks on TV screens, enter to win a new car or just get some freebies like sunglasses.
On stage tonight at 10 p.m. is Lupe Fiasco. Theophilus London will open the concert at 9 p.m. Check the weather before you head out. Forecasters were calling for thunderstorms late in the day.
