The centerpiece of the town's first-ever Uptown Bash set for this weekend is a bikini parade where O.C. planned to break a record set by Panama City Beach this spring. That would have required about 450 women marching in their two-piece best. Easy peasy, right?
Just this week the town learned that China had broken Panama City's record earlier this month by parading 1,085 bikini-clad women in Huludao City in the Liaoning Province. The event, joined by women and girls ages 4 to 70, took place during the China International Beach & Bikini Culture Exposition and was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records.
So, ladies, the competition is on!
The U.S. may have topped China in the number of medals won at the Summer Olympics in London, but will we be able to beat them with our bikinis?
The bikini parade will kick-off at the Princess Royale (91st Street on the ocean) at 3 p.m. Saturday. To join in, participants will need to pay a $10 entrance fee for adults, $5 for girls age 18 and under and free for girls younger than 10.
Organizers are encouraging families to participate - even bikini teams, by offering special discounts on registration. Go to uptownbeachbash.com to register in advance. There will also be walk-up onsite registration available the day of the parade at the Princess Royale on 91st Street from 12 p.m. until 12:30 p.m.
