Vodka will join the long list of spirits, food and wine being celebrated during this year’s Hawaii Food & Wine Festival in Honolulu.
The third annual festival begins Sunday and will continue through Sept. 9. It will bring participants face-to-face with 75 world-class master chefs, culinary personalities and wine and spirit producers. The festival was founded by Hawaiian chefs Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi.
This year’s lineup will include Tony Abou-Ganim, who bills himself as the Modern Mixologist. He’s been a cocktail creator for more than 30 years and lists among his many credits the development of drinks for the 22 bars at Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Abou-Ganim will host a "Vodka and Vodka-Based Cocktails" seminar beginning at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 7 on the Hau Terrace at the Halekulani resort. Guests will learn which vodkas work best in different cocktails. The flavor nuances of vodka made from grain, grapes and potatoes will also be explained.
Admission to the seminar is $100. That includes a copy of Abou-Ganim’s book, “Vodka Distilled.”
