If you haven't made Fourth of July plans, time's a-wastin'. Airfares this summer have been high and remain high, but Travelzoo reporter Gabe Saglie suggests keeping an eye on social media Wednesday (today) for some last-minute price-slashing.
For hotel rooms, Saglie recommends these discounted places to stay over the holiday.
New York City: "As NYC business travel slows down, bargains pop up," Saglie said via email. The Statue of Liberty reopening and the fabulous fireworks show around Lady Liberty are reason enough to visit. The Lexington New York City in midtown Manhattan shows availability Thursday through Sunday for $129 a night. (The offer is good Thursdays through Sundays until Sept. 1 for reservations made by July 10.)
Snowmass, Colo.: "Why not take advantage of the summer savings in what is one of the country's premier (and most expensive) snow season draws?" he asked. The Westin Snowmass Resort in Snowmass Village, Colo., about eight miles from Aspen, is showing rates from Wednesday to Saturday of $129 a night plus tax. (The Travelzoo offer is good on selected days through Oct. 12 but you must reserve by July 31.)
Los Angeles: "And if you'd rather not travel but [want to] feel like you're getting away even while staying in L.A., why not do it in style?" The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills has a Travelzoo discounted rate of $235 a night plus tax, which comes with 25% off spa services, for Thursday through Sunday. (The offer is good through Sept. 5 for reservations made by July 31.)
Tested: I checked online and found these offers available at the rates above. As for savings, the Westin Snowmass Resort easily costs three times more than $129 during winter ski season. And rooms at the Beverly Hilton on the same holiday nights start at $40 higher than the Travelzoo rate.
