If the budget is a little tight, but you still want a change of venue when it comes to vacation time, consider TripAdvisor's list of locales that are on the rise in 2012. Seems more and more folks are traveling to these destinations, given the number of traveler reviews on the site over the past year.

Santa Cruz is one of America's surfing capitals, complete with its own museum devoted to the sport, and a beach whose waves are known all over the world. For outdoor recreation, the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary and Natural Bridges State Park are the places to be.
