Lewis Allen, Glimpsed at Rehoboth Beach
Lewis Allen would rather wear his dad's old suit and tie to the beach than a regular old bathing suit.
"My dad is a pretty snazzy dresser, so I try to keep up," he said. Lewis, a 25-year-old student at the School of Visual Arts in New York, was "glimpsed" at Rehoboth Beach dressed to impress in a button-down shirt, tie, slacks, dress shoes and shades, on his way to a restaurant. "No one really gets dressed up for the beach, it's a novelty. We went all out for my best friend's birthday." The look: Pale blue button-down shirt. Navy tie with subtle pattern and a gold tie clip. Cream-colored slacks with brown belt. Light tan, suede dress shoes. Gold-rimmed sunglasses. Where it came from: The tie, sunglasses, shirt and shoes, which are Cole Haan, are all from Lewis' father's 1970s wardrobe. The pants are Polo by Ralph Lauren, and the tie clip came from Just Looking, a store in nearby Midway, Del. Self-described style: "I'm either wearing a tie and suit or cowboy boots, jeans and a T-shirt. There is no middle. I don't like wearing bathing suits, which is funny because I was born and raised by the beach." Where he shops: "Rock Creek is a great store. I get a lot of stuff in New York when it's not summertime. There's also a great little store called Spahr in downtown Rehoboth," Allen said. "This guy makes his own clothes and does tailoring, he's a jack of all trades. I go shopping whenever I have the urge, but I don't go too often these days because I'm trying to save money.
