Chestertown is fiercely proud of its colonial history. Every May, the town hosts a reenactment of the 1774 Chestertown Tea Party, when angry residents boarded a British ship anchored in the Chester River and dumped its shipment of tea into the water. Historic houses line the streets of the town itself, which is also home to the nation's 10th oldest liberal arts institution -- Washington College.
