Why it's cool: As Alaskas busiest season, winter offers a diverse amount of activities. The largest event is Alaska is dog mushing - Alaskas official state sport. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is a big deal here, and for good reason. Going from Anchorage to Nome, the dog sled race is over 1,000 miles long. Winter activities include skiing, snowboarding, heli-skiing and much more.
Don't miss: Tourists from all over the globe come to see the Northern Lights. Winter is the ideal time to catch the colorful patterns and stunning display of the aurora borealis.
