Why it's cool: If you're planning a winter trip, you can't go wrong by visiting Iceland. Just ask Lonely Planet, which named Iceland one of its Top 10 countries for travel in 2013. With its glaciers, geysers, and plentiful wildlife population, the country possesses a beautiful landscape. Some popular winter activities in Iceland include whale watching, hiking across glaciers, and observing Gullfoss, a 105-foot waterfall.
Don't miss: The Blue Lagoon, above, one of Iceland's largest spas. This spot is filled with mineral-rich heated seawater, which comes from a nearby geothermal plant.
