By now we're all three layers deep into our down-filled parkas and up to our ankles in slushy, cold white stuff. Perhaps a winter getaway is not in order. Maybe a beach vacation? But whether you like it hot or cold, here are 100 destinations sure to hit the spot.

Distance from Baltimore: About a six-hour flight
Why it's hot: Surfing is a main attraction here, but it's not the only one by any means. Beyond the beaches, there are green rainforests, blue waterfalls, amazing wildlife, volcanoes, a well-regarded yoga institute and much, much more. The dry season, about mid-December to mid-May, is the perfect time to visit.
Don't miss: Cabo Matapalo, one of the most magical - and remote - beach towns. If you want to see wildlife, this is the place. It's also near the stunning crystal blue waterfalls in Corcovado National Park. For incredible views of an active volcano, check into the Nayara Hotel, Spa & Gardens, which sits in a quiet section of the rain forest near Arenal Volcano National Park, above, in the central part of the country.
