Why it's cool: Longwood Gardens houses some of the most unique and ornate gardens in the nation. While it may seem strange to visit the garden in winter, Longwood Gardens is in bloom year round, particularly during the Christmas season. Spectacular displays of amaryllis, lilies, orchids, poinsettias, winterberry hollies and evergreens fill the greenhouses at Longwood. There are half a million twinkling lights throughout the grounds, to bring to life a starry holiday wonderland. Throughout the winter, Longwood Gardens is hosting the "A World of Music" series, which features a sampling of artists from across the globe. Take a break from strolling the greenhouses at 1906, a restaurant on the grounds, featuring seasonal ingredients.
Don't miss: The indoor children's garden. Longwood Gardens offers a scavenger hunt for kids to complete in the Childrens Garden that features a secret room, bamboo maze and drooling dragon.
