Distance from Baltimore: 1,680 miles, about a 4-hour flight
Why it's cool: Parks galore. With its barren winter serenity, Waterton Lakes National Park , south of Calgary, is a great spot for hiking, snowshoeing, ice skating and ice climbing. A winter festival takes place at the park in mid-February. Meanwhile, Banff National Park, west of Calgary, offers skiing, snowboarding and more at the its Lake Louise Ski Area, about 90 minutes outside of Calgary. Weather conditions at both parks can be extreme, so be prepared for chilly, windy conditions.
Don't miss: In Calgary, visit the Canada Olympic Park, an attraction that pays tribute to the Winter Games held here in 1988.
