Basilica of the Assumption, Baltimore
Basilica of the Assumption, Baltimore
It's viewed as a symbol of religious freedom in America. Designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, the architect of the U.S. Capitol, at the behest of John Carroll, Baltimore's first bishop, the basilica was the first cathedral constructed after the adoption of the Constitution. It was the setting for many historic Catholic events and was named a national landmark in 1972. |
