Frederick: Flag Day Weekend
A little bit of history comes to Frederick this summer with the presentation of the original Star Spangled Banner manuscript. On loan from the Maryland Historical Society, the lyrics by Francis Scott Key will be on public display at Frederick City Hall from June 14-15. In addition to viewing the manuscript, visitors will be able to view several marker dedication ceremonies in key Key locations around Frederick, and experience guided tours of the Frederick Visitor Center. At the end of the weekend, the manuscript will be reunited with its author for possibly the first time since it was drafted in a ceremony at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
The Star Spangled Banner manuscript will be on display at the Frederick City Hall from 2:30 p.m.to 5:30 p.m. on June 14 and 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 15. For a full schedule of the other Flag Day weekend events, including tours and marker dedications, go to visitfrederick.org.
