Fort Stevens

Fort Stevens is the site of the District’s lone Civil War battlefield. <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PEHST002241" title="Abraham Lincoln" href="/topic/politics/government/presidents-of-the-united-states/abraham-lincoln-PEHST002241.topic">President Lincoln</a> escaped sniper fire here when he came to observe the battle.
