Top it all off with candlelit dining and as many sexy siestas as your hearts desire. Just in time for St. Valentine's Day, we've checked out five retreats in and around the Baltimore area so that you can check in for romance. -Donna M. Owens, For The Baltimore Sun

Why it's romantic: Located on the border of Harbor East and Fells Point, the 12-suite boutique hotel is eco-conscious - geothermal heating, a green roof, organic bedding - and cozy, with balconies and proximity to the Inner Harbor. Furniture is custom made of bamboo, concrete floors have handmade Persian rugs, walls are colored with an old-world crushed mineral "tadlakt" technique, and each room is alive with art - all for sale - from Maryland Institute College of Art students and local artists. "Every room is different," says concierge Ahmed Ibrahim. "All are spacious," he says of the suites, which range from 800 to 1,100 square feet.
Whom to take: A spouse or partner who believes in saving the Earth.
