The third season of "The Hills" ended Monday night ... except it didn't.

MTV and "Hills" star Lauren Conrad announced at the close of Monday's alleged finale that the season will be extended by eight episodes. The show will also leave the country, following Conrad and fellow Teen Vogue employee Whitney Port to Paris.

"MTV is giving the passionate fans of 'The Hills' what they deserve -- an extended season to catch up on cast relationships and finally see Lauren realize a long-awaited dream," says Tony DiSanto, MTV's head of programming. "The success of the series, both on air and online, has been tremendous, and as it continues to grow, we look forward to taking this season into the new year."

The extra episodes will tag along as Conrad and Port head to Paris to work the Crillon Ball, an "international gala for debutantes," for Teen Vogue. Cameras will also continue to follow Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt's turbulent relationship back home in Los Angeles.

"The Hills" has been a big bright spot in MTV's lineup this season, ranking No. 1 on all of cable among the network's core audience of people aged 12-34. It's also the top show on MTV.com.

The new episodes are slated to air in the spring.
