Actors Go Ape Over 'Space Chimps'
Andy Samberg, Jeff Daniels and Stanley Tucci lead the way
'Saturday Night Live' castmember Andy Samberg
Andy Samberg, Stanley Tucci and Patrick Warburton will monkey around with 20th Century Fox's CG-animated "Space Chimps."
Also providing vocal assistance are Kenan Thompson, Jeff Daniels, Cheryl Hines and Kristin Chenowith.
The Vanguard Animation and Starz Media production has lined up a quirky creative ensemble as well. Kirk DeMicco ("Racing Stripes") is writing and directing, with Barry Sonnenfeld ("Men in Black") serving as producer and creative consultant. Eurythmics veteran Dave Stewart will compose the score, but the Blue Man Group will contribute addition music and sound design, according to the industry trades.
Samberg ("Saturday Night Live"), who makes his big screen starring debut in the upcoming "Hot Rod," will voice Ham III, grandson of the first chimp astronaut in space. A senator (Tucci) elects to capitalize on his name, sending the Ham III and some simian pals through a black hole to lead a mission against an alien dictator (Daniels). We're sure it will make more sense in context.
The film should be ready for release sometime next year.
