GRAND RAPIDS - Davenport University's second residence hall was officially dedicated this morning.  The Fred and Lena Meijer Residence Hall opened in the fall of 2006, and houses more than 100 students.  The five story complex is split into apartment style dwellings.

The residence hall was named after the Meijers' because of the generous donation of approximately 16 wooded acres that adjoin the eastern border of Davenport's campus.  The Meijer name now joins other donors including Wilbur Lettinga, Rich DeVos, Jay Van Andel, and Peter Cook.

Davenport already has plans in motion for a third residence hall on campus.  Construction has already started, and it's expected to open this fall.  The school says the new building will also house the dining facility for students living on campus, bring it's potential on campus residency to 700.

Bill Lettinga was on hand for today's event, his comments are in the video player.
