A woman claimed she was stabbed Monday night, after refusing to have sex with a man who lives in her building.

Police were called to home in the 800 block of North Gray Road where a woman came to the door, holding a towel to her neck. The towel was full of blood.

The woman told officers the man who rents the basement in her building came to her room where she was watching TV, wanting sex. She said no and he left. Later, she said she went down to get her laundry. When she turned around, she said the man, identified as 66-year-old Virgil McCubbins, stabbed her in the throat. She then ran upstairs and called police.

The victim was taken to Methodist Hospital and at last check, was listed in stable condition.

Police arrested McCubbins, who had a different version of what happened. He claimed he had been in a relationship with the victim for several months after he moved in to the building. He told police she came downstairs and attacked him. McCubbins said he was tired of being hit by the woman and that's when he picked up the knife and stabbed her.

McCubbins was arrested on preliminary charges of battery, domestic battery and criminal recklessness.
