Police took 21-year-old Devon Sylvester into custody Monday night. Charges against him include operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.
“Me and my son were out in the other room, watching the football game and I just heard a loud bang,” Brucker said. “And, I had no idea what it was and I opened the door and there was just smoke and insulation blowing everywhere.”
Brucker’s 16-year-old daughter Paige was watching television with her mother in the living room when the crash happened.
“My wife was yelling at me,” Brucker said. “(She said to) get Paige and I thought she was in the back of the house in the room.”
Brucker’s daughter was rushed to Methodist Hospital. She had broken bones and cuts on her face. Brucker said he was shocked to find out Sylvester was under the influence of drugs.
“It just makes me so angry that my daughter is lying in a hospital bed while this guy was out having a good time with no regards to anybody else,” Brucker said.
Detectives found heroin on Sylvester as well as four syringes, a small metal spoon, a bottle cap and a nail.
