The 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee kicked off the volunteer program Wednesday with two events at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Thousands of Super Bowl volunteers rallied at Conseco Fieldhouse for the Volunteer Kick-Off. At the celebration, volunteers received marching orders in advance of the NFL championship game on February 5.

Super Bowl Host Committee organizers say they have received 13,000 applications and have picked the first 10,000 volunteers.

Each volunteer is being asked to sign up for at least three of the 34,000 shifts that must be filled.

Jobs will be spread among ten categories including airport greeter, ground transportation, hospitality desk clerk, NFL experience assistant and Super Bowl village ambassador.

"We're on course to have about 150,000 hours of volunteer time donated to the Super Bowl," said Host Committee President and CEO Allison Melangton.

Volunteers will receive a jacket, shirt, hat, coat and scarf.

"If you sent the order chart to the Harvard business school they’d say, 'you don't need all these people,'" said Host Committee Chairman Mark Miles. "But that's not our philosophy. It’s because we're looking for inclusiveness."

During the rally at Conseco, volunteers were told they can begin their online ‘Super Service’ training at indianapolissuperbowl.com.
