Councilors to introduce new smoking ban plan

The new ordinance would ban smoking in all bars, but let private clubs decide whether to go smoke free or not. That's tougher than the new state-wide ban just signed into law.

City council members will meet Monday night to introduce a new city-wide smoking ordinance.

The new ordinance would ban smoking in all bars, but let private clubs decide whether to go smoke free or not. That's tougher than the new state-wide ban just signed into law.

Neighborhood bars and taverns say they'll lose business if their patrons can't smoke while they drink.

Mayor Ballard says he wants to see the language on self-determination by private clubs before he signs off on the ordinance.
