Thanks to rain, the hot rods will have to wait until next week.
Officials for the National Hot Rod Association announced Monday that the 58th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Auto-Plus would be pushed back until next weekend.
The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 8, and Sunday, September 9, at Lucas Oil Raceway.
“The persistent weather has affected the racing surface and we have chosen to make the tough decision to postpone the race until next weekend,” said Graham Light, NHRA senior vice president racing operations. “We are planning to run the remainder of the event next weekend on Saturday and Sunday.
Qualifying will open Saturday, September 8, for NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing categories — Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle. Eliminations will follow on Sunday. The Funny Car NHRA Traxxas Nitro Shootout, the NHRA $100,000 bonus race within a race, will be run on Saturday as well.
Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing series and the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Pro Care RX will continue qualifying on Saturday, with the rest of sportsman eliminations scheduled for Saturday.
