The City of Kokomo was ranked in the top 50 on a list of the 405 safest places to live in the United States.

According to CQ Press’ annual report, City Crime Rankings for 2011-2012, Kokomo ranked at number 45.

The rankings were based on the number of reported incidents on murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft.

“It’s an honor for the City of Kokomo to once again be recognized as one of the safest cities in Indiana and the nation,” said Mayor Greg Goodnight in a press release statement. “This would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of the Kokomo Police Department. Kokomo’s ranking says a lot about our residents and the positive quality of life found here.”

The other Indiana cities to make the top 50 were Columbus and Lafayette.
