Seymour native and legendary rocker John Mellencamp is honoring his mother by supporting the arts.
Mellencamp's mother, Marilyn, died five months ago. She was an artist and a supporter of the arts as well so John is establishing the Marilyn Mellencamp Scholarship for the Arts for Seymour High School seniors.
A free concert and art show will take place in Seymour this Saturday at the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts. The event will raise money for the new scholarship.
The art show will feature paintings by Marilyn Mellencamp. It begins at 1 p.m. and a live concert will start at 6 p.m.
John Mellencamp himself will not perform, though.
