Late Friday afternoon, IMPD officers were called to the scene of a robbery and shooting at 1042 Virginia Avenue in Fountain Square. Homicide units were later called in after a body was discovered inside. The victim was later identified as the owner of Pedigo Jewelers, David Pedigo.

Customers say the owner was a good man. He  always parked his Acura in the back and even recently discussed marriage.

"It's a shame somebody would do something like that. That man didn't ask for that or nothing like that," said customer James Williams.

Fellow Fountain Square shop owners said they were concerned.  Fountain Square Theater Building owner Linton Calvert believes it's been 15 years since the area had a homicide.

"This gentleman his father started the business in the 40's here in Fountain Square and his father passed away 4 or 5 years ago and David has been a part of this community for a number of years," said Calvert.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
