An Indianapolis man stands accused of stabbing a woman while she was sleeping.

IMPD officers were called to the 1400 block of East New York Street just after 4 a.m. Thursday. Once there, they found 48-year-old Teresa Lebel suffering from a stab wound to her chest.

She told police she was stabbed by 46-year-old Daryl Griffin, who she said had just run away.

Police arrested Griffin. He is now charged with aggravated battery.

Lebel was taken to Wishard Hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery Thursday afternoon.
