Hoosier heroes will soon be honored along Georgia Street downtown.
Wednesday, Mayor Greg Ballard gave details about the project to memorialize famous Hoosiers on decorative columns running along the popular street.
The first 10 honorees include Presidents Benjamin Harrison and Abraham Lincoln, legendary jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, Pulitzer Prize winning author Booth Tarkington and Tecumseh, the chief of the Shawnee nation.
Each year, the names of a few more famous Hoosiers will be added. Mayor Ballard sees the project as a sort of outdoor classroom.
"I'm looking forward to people coming down and looking at those pillars and saying wow I never knew that," he said.
The columns will begin going up along Georgia Street in February. They'll be dedicated in March.
