Indianapolis—Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard (R) met with representatives of the Ten Point Coalition Monday morning to discuss recent violence downtown. They are calling for Black History Month to be violence free. They, along with other community organizations plan to host town hall meetings throughout the month of February to address gun violence and to promote peace.
During the meeting, the elephant in the room seemed to be how are young people getting guns? The message: no guns, no violence. Mayor Ballard said there needs to be a forum and grass roots effort to make this happen.
Public Safety Director Dr. Frank Straub said this is a time of shame and sorrow in our city. There have been 13 victims killed due to violence so far this year.
