INDIANAPOLIS - In yet another match-up worthy of Lucas Oil Stadium instead of a Sectional Semi-Final, it was Lawrence Central who played survivor.
In a difficult Sectional 5 that saw the fall of a Top Five team in the opening week of the playoffs, Lawrence Central found a way to stay alive.
The Bears went on the road to Warren Central in their Sectional 5 Semi-Final, grabbing a 14-point lead and then holding on down the stretch to beat the Warriors 21-14.
Lawrence Central now advances to the Sectional Final to face North Central, who beat Tech on the road 20-7.
"We try to make it hard on ourselves with penalties and lack of execution, but you have to give credit to Warren for making those things happen," said head coach Jayson West of the win. "Just real happy it worked out in the end."
Quarterback Drake Christen helped make it work for the better part of three quarters. He threw to Darien Taylor and Trey White along with rushing one in himself to help the Bears build a 21-7 lead in the fourth quarter.
Warren Central made things interesting late when Krishawn Hogan caught a touchdown pass to cut the lead to seven late. But the Bears' defense held on down the stretch to preserve the victory.
