Putting his pride aside, Bob Gross is giving new meaning to pounding the pavement.

"You never know when it's going to be you. I never ever expected to be laid off," Gross said, holding a hand-made sign that says he needs a job.

Two years ago he was laid off from the Delphi Corporation where he worked as a systems analyst for 20 years. He's been looking tirelessly for a job ever since.

"I have sent literally 1,400 to 1,500 applications in and I have yet to receive an offer."

With his unemployment about to run out, and three mouths to feed, Gross became desperate.

"I thought what do I have to lose? I'm going to do something. I've heard about some people doing this. It's a little bit humbling but I have nothing to lose. So I tossed the idea around and had my daughter draw up this sign and here I am," he says.

People are taking notice. He's already passed out about a dozen resumes and received several leads and business cards from interested employers.

Now Gross says it's only a matter of time. Something he has a lot of these days.

"Someday somewhere somebody will hire me and I know that but it's tough waiting," Gross admits.
