The floral industry is constantly changing and evolving, always balancing between adapting to current trends, while remaining unique and innovative. "The challenge is always to stay on top and to keep upping your game," says owner/designer Jennifer Ford-Chatfield. And this is the seventh year in a row that shes taken the Best Florist title. "Keep everything that's functioning and working stable, and then keep looking for other avenues to move forward." The flowers they offer come from all over the world: South America, Hawaii, Holland, Thailand, Australia, Africa, just about everywhere. And that includes locally. "When irises are in bloom in Connecticut, for example, we'll use those instead of outsourcing," says Ford-Chatfield. "Every party is unique, because we customize each one for the client," says designer Jorge Uribe. The challenge is never to duplicate. On fleurdelysfloral.com, forgetful men can sign up for a text message reminder program, so they never again allow an anniversary or birthday to slip through the cracks. Fun fact: The floral industry is roughly six months behind the fashion industry when it comes to trends. "This year purple is huge for weddings," says Ford-Chatfield.
