A Mountaineer Can't Stop a Pirate
Can anyone stop the East Carolina Pirates? After beating Va Tech last week they put a beating down on 8th ranked West Virginia and Heisman hope-no-more Pat White. The Pirate defense held White to just 72 yards in the air a week after he threw 5 td's against a weak Villanova team. ECU's quarterback Patrick Pinkney continued to have a hot hand in the win. He was 22-28 for 236 yds and a TD. ECU's schedule was definitely front heavy this year and they have a chance now to possibly get to 12-0 and a BCS buster birth.
Rich Rod Wins #1
Last week I watched the Rich Rod era start and was thoroughly unimpressed. This week I watched a Wolverine team barely get by Miami of Ohio. The biggest improvement is supposed to be between weeks one and two and if that is the case it is going to be a long season for Michigan and its fans.
New Play Caller, Same Results
Notre Dame kicked off its season after being idle last week with coach Charlie Weiss playing the roll of head coach instead of offensive mastermind. It didn't seem to make much of a difference. Notre Dame looked lethargic with no real dominating stars or that much passion. Granted it was their first game and the nerves are there but they seemed uninspired. Notre Dame needed 14 fourth quarter points to beat San Diego State. The same San Diego State team that lost in week 1 to Cal-Poly. Looking even closer you see that Cal-Poly had 141 more total yards, 158 more rushing yards, and only 17 fewer passing yards against the Aztec's than Notre Dame did. All said, this should lead up to the most horrific Michigan-Notre Dame game in the history of college football.
Ohio State was looking to have a nice tune-up game against Ohio before the Clash of the Titans game against the Trojans. What they got was everything they could handle against an Ohio team that wasn't afraid of their in-state rivals. If it weren't for a muffed punt by Ohio and a Ray Small punt return TD in the fourth quarter Ohio State could have very easily lost this game. If they play like this on Saturday in Southern Cal don't expect the O-H-I-O cheer to resonate in Columbus but an O-H N-O to be cried by all of the Buckeye nation.
