...Well, not that kind of triple-X rating. That's just Roman for thirty, and this weekend Mystic Seaport rolls out its thirtieth annual Sea Music Festival. And though you might be thinking of Christopher Cross' "Sailing" or Frankie Ford's "Sea Cruise", that's not quite what we're talking about. It's traditional and contemporary maritime music from more than thirty (there's that number again) performers from various nations including the USA, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, and Scotland - some countries with plenty of coastline and a boatload of salty old stories to tell in song. Acts include the Clancy Legacy, Danny Spooner, Martin & Phillip Hugill, Barnacle Bob Walser, Louis Killen, Bob Webb, Talitha MacKenzie & Les Bouthilliers, Stuart Frank & Mary Malloy, Carl Thornton, Cliff Haslam, Daisy Nell & Stan Collinson, Dave Peloquin, David Kleiman, Heather Wood, Ellen Cohn, Dick Holdstock & Allan MacLeod, Jeff Warner, Jerry Bryant, John Roberts, Judy Cook, Marc Bernier, Nanne Kalma & The Hudson Crew, New Bedford Harbor Sea Chantey Chorus, Rick Nestler, Rum Soaked Crooks, The Ancient Mariners, and Walter Askew.
With that many performers you need to jam-pack them in to a schedule, which is great for music lovers because there's never a dull moment. The Festival runs Thursday, June 11 through Sunday, June 14, featuring evening concerts each day from 7 to 11 p.m. The Saturday and Sunday schedules boast musicians from noon to 5 p.m. as well.
All events are rain or shine, and best part is, the forecast gets better as the weekend gets underway, so, come on down to Mystic Seaport and get your feet wet!
All workshops are included with regular admission, and college students get in for the youth rate with the presentation of a current college ID.
