HARTFORD - Former city Mayor Mike Peters went back into the intensive care unit at Hartford Hospital Tuesday morning, after suffering a negative reaction to one of the drugs he received following last week's liver transplant surgery, the hospital said Tuesday afternoon.

Family friend Pat Ryan said that the move was a "a little bit of a setback," but not a life-threatening development. The hospital confirmed that assessment.

Peters, 59, was operated on in the early morning hours of Oct. 7. His liver was failing because of cirrhosis. He left the hospital's intensive care unit on Saturday morning.

Peters left office in 2001 and has said he is considering a run for mayor in 2011.
