PHILADELPHIA—— The New England Patriots recovered from a sluggish start to brutalize the Eagles for the better part of the last three quarters on their way to a 38-20 romp Sunday evening at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Eagles (4-7) went out to a 10-0 lead, only to fall behind by 11 points by halftime and collapse under the weight of a New England passing attack that eventually picked their defense completely apart.
Tom Brady completed 24 of 34 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns as the Patriots (8-3) exploited every previous weakness in the Eagles' deficient pass coverage schemes while exposing many new ones, ostensibly ending any chance the Eagles had to climb back into the playoff race.
Vince Young, starting in place of injured quarterback Michael Vick for a second straight week, completed long passes of 22 and 58 yards on the game's opening series in driving the Eagles to a 7-0 lead. He then hit DeSean Jackson with a 44-yard bomb on their second possession to set up a field goal.
But the Patriots answered with a 12-play, 80-yard touchdown drive and wound up scoring on four of their next five possessions to put it away.
Young finished with 26 completions in 48 attempts for 400 yards, but only one touchdown. He also was intercepted once.
The Eagles actually outgained the Patriots 466 yards to 457 but were done in by red zone inefficiency on both ends.
They now face a short week to prepare for a game at Seattle Thursday night.
