Auto repair shops are in high gear as deer mating and hunting seasons are underway. The combination is causing deer to run from the woods and onto roadways.

One York County auto repair shop is currently working on three cars that were involved in deer related crashes. One of the vehicles sustained $9,000 in damages. Pritz Auto Body told Fox 43 every October business begins to increase. Two to three vehicles are brought in every week, after hitting a deer. In the summer and spring the shop only services three per month.

"I've seen them where they've gone through the windshields of the cars," said Dale Pritz, Pritz Auto Body Owner. "It's pretty consistent. We know to look for them this time of year."

In the Commonwealth this year, Penn Dot reports there have been nearly 5,000 deer related crashes, resulting in more than 1,000 injuries, and 10 deaths.

Penn Dot warns motorists that over the past five years, more than half of deer related accidents happened in October and November. Many occurred between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Penn Dot asks motorists to slow down and be extra cautious during those hours.
