An event at the Prudential Center this week unveiled a mosaic where people submitted images of their favorite family vacations, memories etc., Now NJ Tourism wants to be a part of creating new memories for families, couples and single people looking for weekend getaways.

Grace Hanlon, executive director of the New Jersey Division of Travel & Tourism, was here talking about cheap trips that you can take on one tank of gas, as well as what's new in Atlantic City (not involving gambling) and how you can lock in the best rooms for the best rates.

Why should travelers be thinking about booking their New Jersey summer vacations in now?

March is a great time to book your New Jersey summer vacation, for three reasons:

• You can find early booking specials that offer summer lodging discounts for booking, even while it's still springtime. • The most popular properties and rooms with the best views and amenities can book up fast as we get closer to summer – travelers can lock in the best rooms by booking now. • A New Jersey vacation makes more sense than ever for tri-state viewers as gas prices continue to go up – you can have an amazing vacation in New Jersey, and still make it a "one-tank trip!"

How do you pick the right shore town for your getaway?

You'll find something for every type of vacation at the Jersey Shore, whether you are gathering up the family for an authentic beach vacation, stealing away for a romantic trip, or getting together with some friends, like with the popular "girlfriends' getaways:"

Family Vacations

Ocean City was made for families, with beautiful beaches, a classic boardwalk with two amusement parks, a water park, go-carts, bike rentals and miniature golf, and plenty of family-friendly dining. And when the sun goes down over the bay to the West, you'll see a sunset that will rival any in the country!

The Wildwoods are another family-friendly shore destination – plenty of wide beaches combined with an endless boardwalk and scores of rides and amusements provide an authentic "down the shore" experience.

Long Beach Island – "LBI," as we often call it – offers low-key, family-friendly vacations that haven't changed much since we were kids. You can stay at a classic beachfront hotel, cool off in the Atlantic Ocean, play a round of mini-golf and enjoy amazingly fresh seafood – that's the real Jersey Shore.

Romantic Trips

Spring Lake's Victorian B&B's are great for a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and the long, non-commercial boardwalk is great for long walks along the pristine beach.

Cape May has plenty to opportunities to rekindle the romance and find the fun again, with the kinds of activities that make for great dates: amazing restaurants, whale-watching tours and a wonderful zoo.

Red Bank, nestled against the banks of the scenic Navesink River, has a thriving downtown area with fabulous restaurants and irresistible shops and galleries. Just a few minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, Red Bank also features terrific theatre and performing arts, and a very convenient NJ Transit train station.

Getting Away with Friends

Atlantic City – the only destination in the nation to combine the excitement and nightlife of world casinos with a stunning beachfront location. "AC" also features a wealth of boardwalk attractions and shopping opportunities, from upscale boutiques to tempting outlet stores. Be sure to check out The Chelsea, a stylish new non-gaming resort, and Revel, a fabulous new entertainment resort, casino and spa that is slated to open in May.

Asbury Park – Looking for something edgy? Don't overlook thriving Asbury Park, with legendary music clubs, chic hotels and great dining along the boardwalk. It's home to the world-famous Stone Pony, a fun-packed boardwalk and the landmark Convention Hall and Beach Bar.

Point Pleasant Beach – Just because it's great for families doesn't mean it won't also excel as a terrific "base camp" for a "girlfriends getaway." During the day, be big kids and get silly on the rides, enjoy Jenkinson's Boardwalk, and hit the beach. At night, enjoy the terrific local restaurants, then curl up back in your beach rental with your closest friends, a big bowl of popcorn and your favorite romantic comedy!
