NEW YORK - The mercury may have hit a balmy 77 degrees Monday, but the ice skating season was in full swing at Rockefeller Center in Midtown.

The Rink at Rockefeller Center opened for the 2008-2009 winter season with the kick-off celebration "Chefs on Ice." Restaurants overlooking the Rockefeller rink passed out baked goods and some season sweets to skaters.

Rockefeller Center is the first of three rinks that will reopen this month. The rink at Bryant Park is set to open next Monday, while Central Park's Wollman Rink will be open for business on October 24.

The skating rink at Rockefeller Center is scheduled to stay open until mid-April.
