ELMHURST, NY (PIX11)—Stray cats in Elmhurst, Queens are turning up dead, baffling a neighborhood that says they’ve been caring for the felines for yeas.
“There used to be 12 or 13, now there are nine sometimes three,” said David Taylor, Vice President of Yoga Gupta Ashram and cat caretaker.
“They are dead they are stiff when we find them and we find them in unusual places,” said Taylor.
Taylor and others on the block saddens by the deaths suspect that the cats are being poisoned.
“We suspect these animals are killed, slaughtered or poisoned,” said Taylor.
Davis said they’ve called 311 even the NYPD. But each time they make claims that they believe cats are being poisoned, the agencies ask for evidence. Taylor said it is too expensive to install surveillance cameras. Last night though, a neighbor piece of chicken, not put out by care caretakers, near their food bowls.
Today, while PIX 11 cameras were rolling, Mary Sahota, a friend of Taylor’s found a crippled cat in the backyard. The cat has liasons on it’s mouth and could barely walk.
“These cats are sick. They were healthy before. Most were healthy yesterday,” said Taylor.
A formal report was filed today. The cat found last night is being taken to Columbia where an autopsy will be performed. The foreign is also being tested.
