Fr. Michael Pfleger protests toy guns in Easter baskets.
The effort to get toy guns out of Easter baskets has paid off for Fr. Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina’s Catholic Church.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports many Chicago area Walgreens stores have pulled the baskets with plastic water guns or Nerf dart shooters off their shelves.
Pfleger also sent a letter to Kmart asking stores to stop selling the baskets. The retailer says the baskets will not be removed this year, but toy guns will be excluded in the future.
Pfleger says toy guns are no longer appropriate for a generation plagued by rampant gun violence.
