Adelor, an 18-year-old male African lion, was euthanized at the Lincoln Park Zoo Wednesday.
Zoo officials said he was euthanized due to a “progressively deteriorating health and quality of life,” according to a news release. The median life expectancy for lions, assuming they survive their first year of life, is approximately 14 years, the release said.
Adelor had lived at the zoo since 1995.
