Women who live in Chicago's Jefferson Park community are being warned to be on the lookout for an armed robber.

Police issued a community alert after a string of strong-armed robberies. The most recent of eight incidents happened on Tuesday, Feb. 28 on the 5400 block of School Street.

Police say a man approaches women on the sidewalk, or in the alley, and robs them of their purses, money and cell phones.

Most of the robberies have happened during the afternoon and evening hours.

Among the locations: The 53 and 58-hundred block areas of West Belmont, School Street, Melrose, and Cornelia. Also North Lotus, and North Marmora avenue.

The victims have described the robber as a male white or white Hispanic, between 20 to 35 years old.
