A Roman Catholic priest who gambled away his parish's money now wants his job back.
Reverend John Regan was pastor of St. Walter's Church in Roselle until last summer, when he was convicted of spending $300,000 from the collection plate at riverboat casinos.
He was sentenced to two months in jail and some community service, and ordered to work at a menial job to learn some humility; that job ends this month.
Today Regan will ask a judge to let him return to his church with a provision that he not be given any access to the church’s money.
Parishioners have said they would be happy to welcome him back.
